Born in the village of Aldredelie (Alderley) in 937, Aethelwine is the only daughter of Wulfgar, and sister to Oslac. Following the death of her mother during a Viking raid on the village, Aethelwine, together with her father and brother, moved to the village of Cedde (Cheadle) to live with her father's extended family.
Aethelwine's days are spent working alongside the other women of the family and learning the many skills needed to run a household, something which she will be expected to do following her arranged marriage sometime within the next few years.
Aethelwine's father has become quite a wealthy and respected member of the village, and her marriage is seen as a chance to further increase the status of the family. However, Aethelwine's infamous short and bad temper are making the search for a suitable husband an extremely troublesome and frustrating task for her father.
